Variable Font is a standard font format of OpenType launched by Adobe, Apple, Google and Microsoft in 2016. The weights, widths, slants, italics, optical sizes and the shapes of strokes could be changed by setting up parameters or applied for responsive design to fit perfectly into different application . It also reduces the data volume caused by huge font families.
AR JingXiHei Variable Font(beta) includes two axes: weight, width. More axes will be launched in the near future.
The first axis is weight. By adjusting parameters of weight, strokes go from light to heavy accordingly. With easy-to-adjust strokes, it matches well with various weights of Latin fonts.
The second axis is width. Stepless adjustment of width varies from condensed to normal. When applied in user interface, for example, of some navigation or smart watches, the length of text information adjusts in real time.
As of August 2018, variable fonts are supported in Adobe Illustrator CC 2018, Adobe Photoshop CC 2018, Chrome 66+, Safari 11(macOS10.13+, iOS11).
As Variable Fonts are an emerging font technology, currently with limited support in operating systems and applications, we are providing AR UDJingXiHei variable font as a beta version. If you have purchased East Asian Pack or SC Ultimate Pack on iFontCloud, you can use AR UDJingXiHei variable font in the same license scope during the authorization period, and while we can’t provide technical support for variable fonts, we'd like to hear your feedback.
